Women in Roofing & Construction

We are celebrating Woman in Construction week at Empire Roofing. The Roofing and Construction industry is traditionally male-dominated, but in recent years, more and more women have been breaking through the barriers and making their mark in this industry. These women are showing that they have the skills, knowledge, and determination to succeed in a field that has long been seen as the domain of men.

Women in the roofing and construction industry face many challenges, from stereotypes and biases to physical demands and safety concerns. However, they have proven time and time again that they are more than capable of overcoming these obstacles and thriving in this challenging and rewarding field.

One of the key factors that has helped women succeed in roofing and construction is education and training. Many women have taken courses in building and construction, engineering, or related fields, which has given them the knowledge and skills they need to excel in this industry. Others have learned on the job, starting as laborers or apprentices and working their way up through the ranks.

Another important factor is mentorship and support. Women who are interested in pursuing a career in roofing and construction often find it helpful to connect with other women who have already made their mark in the industry. These mentors can provide guidance, advice, and support as they navigate the challenges and opportunities that come with working in this field.

Despite the progress that has been made, there is still much work to be done to ensure that women have equal opportunities and representation in the roofing and construction industry. Organizations like the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) are working to promote and support women in this field, providing resources, networking opportunities, and advocacy on their behalf.

Women are making great strides in the roofing and construction industry. They are breaking down barriers, challenging stereotypes, and showing that they have what it takes to succeed in a field that has long been dominated by men. With education, training, mentorship, and support, women can continue to thrive and make their mark in this exciting and rewarding industry.

Empire Roofing Awarded Golden Hammer

Each year, NTRCA takes time to honor the best of the best at its Annual Awards Gala in February.

The Golden Hammer Awards Program brings annual recognition to NTRCA contractors and associate members. The winners of the Golden Hammer are recognized by their peers for their significant contributions to the roofing industry in the following categories:

Outstanding Residential & Commercial Projects

Outstanding Community Service Projects

Outstanding Metal or Tile Projects

Outstanding Green Projects

This year Empire Roofing was Honored with the Outstanding Community Service Project Award. Empire Roofing donated Reroofing to 3 buildings that St. Philips School and Community Center of Dallas purchased, which were in bad condition. Our hope was to be able to begin the process of revitalization for the community. This is the first phase in the rebuilding of this South Dallas community.

This project was not possible without the hard work of the Empire team: Tyler Lea (Project Manager), Gabriel Esquivel (Superintendent), Gabriel (G3) Esquivel III (Superintendent), and Jose Davila (Foreman).

Thank you to everyone involved that turned this vision into reality!

Empire Roofing would like to thank NTRCA for this years Honor in receiving the 2022 Golden Hammer Award for Community Involvement.

A community is only as strong as the foundation laid by the people surrounding it. Empire Roofing has always been involved with our local community and charities. Here recently Matt Kelley V.P of Empire Roofing reached out to Dr. Terry Flowers who is the Headmaster and Executive Director for St. Philips School & Community Center in South Dallas.

40 Years of Award Winning Service

What began as a small roofing company in 1982 built by around 8 roofers, has grown to what we know today as Empire Roofing. Over the years, Empire Roofing became a better roofing company and one of the best. The overwhelming response from satisfied customers has built extraordinary results that surprise even the founders. Today, Empire Roofing employs over 500 people nationwide and has annual sales of $150 million. Empire sets the high standards by which others are measured, making it a leader in the industry.

Empire Roofing owes its growth to hard work and word-of-mouth promotion. As satisfied commercial and industrial customers spread the word, the business grew along with its reputation for quality.

Our affiliated locations are individually owned and separately operated by long-time industry professionals, although some administrative functions are centralized. Not including Empire Roofing HQ in Fort Worth has affiliates in San Antonio, Houston, Austin, El Paso, Tulsa (OK), Nashville (TN), Memphis (TN), Sunrise (FL), West Palm Beach (FL), Atlanta (GA), and Denver (CO)

Empire Roofing's credo is to combine the finest products with the highest level of customer service and do everything right the first time.

Lincoln Hill- Empire Roofing

Empire Family,

It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we want to inform you of the death of our colleague and friend, Lincoln Hill, who passed away on October 5th. Lincoln passed away unexpectedly. We will all miss him more than words can express. Lincoln was the President of our Tulsa, OK office. He was not just our co-worker but our good friend as well.

Details regarding the funeral or memorial service will be communicated as we learn more from the Hill family.

“Lincoln and I have worked together for over 18 years. He was more than a business partner; he was a best friend. Lincoln lived his life to its fullest with his family, children, and grandchildren who he loved dearly. Lincoln was a person that you could depend on whether it was for work or play. He especially knew how to give life lessons and analogies on life and work. He was one of the smartest guys I partnered with, and I will dearly miss him. God Bless his family and I thank them for sharing Lincoln with us during his time at Empire Roofing /Tecta America.

My heart is broken with the loss of such a great colleague and friend.”

-Ronnie McGlothlin (Empire Roofing President)

A Highrise Project

Our Team at Empire recently completed a project along side VTECH Skylights at The Plaza of the Americas located in Dallas, TX.

The atrium of this commercial complex in downtown Dallas is world-famous for its natural lighting, much of which pours directly through the ceiling that soars 170 feet above the floor. The original construction was completed in 1980, and the building has withstood a lot of wear and tear in the meantime; Dallas is known for high winds and large hail, which wreak havoc on traditional skylights. But the building’s owner wasn’t about to give up the natural light for a more durable roof.

Installing skylight adapters on a high rise

The largest adapters for Plaza of the Americas needed to span 24′ – a bit too big for the freight elevator. And at 15 stories, the roof is too high for a crane. We opted to fly them up with a helicopter.

Navigating an urban landscape in a helicopter is serious business. Doing it with a thousand pounds of metal dangling from a cable is much more so. We enlisted the expertise of the seasoned operators at 5 State Helicopters and committed a generous crew of our finest installers. Waiting for clear weather with the minimal wind was an unfortunate reality, but was necessary to the project’s safety and success.

With a team on the ground, a team on the roof, a pilot in the air, and constant communication between all parties, we executed a safe and seamless lift. The helicopter bore the adapters from a nearby parking lot – closed off to all but our ground crew – up to the roof. With remarkable precision, it lowered it directly into place over the 24′ square opening. The rooftop crew was on-hand to guide the apparatus and complete the installation. Six trips in all, the plan went off without a hitch.

With the adapters in place, completing the installation of the 292 skylights was business as usual. VTECH Skylights install in minutes. They come out of the box in one piece and attach with polyurethane adhesive and a handful of stainless steel fasteners.

The atrium at Plaza of the Americas now has a beautiful, robust skylight system that is guaranteed to far outlast the roof it’s installed on.

Tyler Lea from Empire Roofing and Malachi Flores from Skylights Over Texas talk about the project. An installation of this magnitude involves a great relationship and communication between two companies to get the job completed on time.
